Captain America smashed Batman vs. Superman's opening weekend by almost 20 million!

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR has landed a $181.8 million weekend -- the 5th biggest opening weekend EVER!

Not only is the new Captain America movie awesome (I've seen it three times so far), but the audience is 41% female and 89% non-teen.

I seem to remember several people telling me a year and a half ago when I was predicting that Captain America: Civil War would outperform Batman v. Superman in both domestic opening weekend and worldwide total gross that I was delusional. And here it is beating BvS's domestic opening weekend by almost $20 million, and is on track to utterly destroy its current $862 million worldwide haul. 

It's expected to hit $700 million sometime this week, and it's got two more domestic weekends with almost nothing competing against it before X-Men: Apocalypse releases. There's pretty much no way that Civil War grosses anything less than a billion at this point, and $1.2 billion is not out of the question.

To be short, sweet, and spoiler-free: Captain America: Civil War is the darkest, most essential film Marvel has ever made. Succeeding the sum of it's parts with a visually immersive, emotionally gripping story and careful, deliberate pacing, Marvel has almost effortlessly reclaimed the crown of comics king. The source material will hold sway over the most devout fans, but for everyone else, there's at least something to be enjoyed and admired here.

I was impressed with how "comfortable" it all felt. No gimmicks or desperate attempts to make a big splash. It was a solid addition to a much bigger story arc.
I know they can't make a movie exactly as it is in a comic book  but I wish the uniforms/costumes were more colorful, or sharper looking. Caps' is still dark and faded, from the WW2 era and Iron Man's suit is battered and scratched.
