The Revenant review :

Movie out this Weekend :The Revenant

I am recommending it to everyone who loves the movies.

It was shot with only natural light in winter in the high latitudes with the latest Arriflex Alexa 65 digital camera and it is absolutely fabulous. Breakthrough film making.A must watch for anyone who value quality over entertainment. A movie product par excellence by Alejandro. A tale of human endurance, grit and survival techniques (remember BearGrylls from Discovery Channel)
A good watch for entrepreneurs. Teaches you few things about falling down and getting up.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold!"

The Revenant is cold, very cold...not just because it's set in the nineteenth century snow-filled north American plains but also cos some of the scenes in this 2 hour 30 minute vengeance drama could send a cold shiver down your spine.

A bear badly mauling Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is one such. He is a fur trapper who is left behind by his team after the near fatal grizzly attack. His half native son, and two fellow hunters Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) and the younger Bridger (Will Poulter) volunteer to stay back and tend to him. Fitzgerald plays dirty, kills Glass' son in front of his eyes and manipulates Bridger to tell a lie. With survival in mind and revenge in heart, Glass encounters many hardships and extraordinary situations until he gets his man, face to face.

Might sound a regular revenge drama to you but believe me, I haven't seen such a picturesque bloodbath unfold on screen ever. The cinematography (shot in natural light) by Emmanuel Lubezki is breathtakingly beautiful. Editing cuts specially Glass' wife appearing as his illusion provide a surreal effect. Background score during the climax is another highlight. Technically, The Revenant scores a full 5 on 5.

The movie ain't for the faint hearted though. Indeed, the survival techniques Hugh Glass uses include ripping out the innards of a dead horse and using the bare carcass for shelter from a snowstorm. Not everyone's cuppa tea!

Of the cast, Tom Hardy plays the ruthless Fitzgerald to perfection. Will Poulter is convincing as his accomplice who is guilt ridden for his actions. Which brings me to Leonardo DiCaprio....

With hardly any dialogues to speak, crawling his way through most of the film and eating raw meat, Leonardo gives his everything to The Revenant. As for his much discussed Oscar elusiveness, let me say that it will be Oscar's loss if it doesn't go to Leo tomorrow for The Revenant..

Ratings on some of the technical aspects :
1. Direction : 4/5
2. Music :4/5
3. Story and Screenplay : 4/5
4. Cinematography : 5/5 (No movie can beat this in cinematography )
5. Production Quality : 4.5/5

Rating for ‪TheRevenant‬ : 4.5 stars out of 5 (Must must must watch).
